In this blog I share the start of my journey in writing my first e-book.
As I told in the previous blog, I made a decision to write an ebook.
I wanted to share my knowledge with everybody and the best way to do that is to write a book.
Ok, step number 1 is taken, the decision is made and now I have to figure out how to write the book and how to publish it. I have never written an e-book and I had absolutely no knowledge how to publish a book by myself. Peggy McColl gave me the inspiration to write my book and I thought, if she can do it, I can do it to. I started writing in june of 2019. I first made a rough blue print of the chapters and the subjects I wanted to write about. I thought I have to put all the information in the right order so that it is easy to read. I decided to add exercises in the book. If one doesn’t apply the knowledge into practice, then the book is worthless and you wouldn’t learn anything to improve your life. It took me about 2 months to make a good blue print that was complete. Then the writing started.
It was not difficult because I made a blue print before the writing. In November 2019 the text for the book was finished. After the writing I had to figure out how to make it to an e-book and publish it. I started searching on the internet for self publishers and I came across the website of Maria Staal.
She is an author in the Netherlands and has written many books. I started reading on her website and watched an interview on youtube. Wow, really good information I found on her site. I learned I had to edit my text, check it for the right spelling and more. I didn’t know anything about editing and started looking how to edit a book.
On her website she mentioned another author, Joanna Penn.
I started investigating the internet for Joanna and found her, click HERE to go to the creative penn. Joanna wrote an e-book on how to write and self publish your own e-book. I thought to myself, this is what I need and started reading the book.
Writing and publishing my e-book
If you want to be a self publishing writer you must absolutely read her book. I started making a checklist with all the things that needed to be done to publish my first e-book. When the list was finished I was overwhelmed, so many different items I had to do. And because I never written a book before or published a book I knew I first had to get the specialized knowledge I needed.
Hours of searching and reading on the internet brought me step by step closer. I also needed to put all the work in the right order. You can not publish a book if you haven’t made a cover. You can not publish a book if the text is not edited. So my checklist had to be made all over again with all the different items in the right order. But by doing this it was like I was in a funnel and the road I had to walk became clearer and clearer. I thought to myself, I can do this but I must first take care that I had the right specialized knowledge. So the writing was an pretty easy job. The hardest work was the searching for information, the reading of all the information. Hours and hours went by, but I felt I was getting closer and closer to my target. I never thought that I would enjoy it so much. In the next blog I’ll tell you more about the specific things I did and what knowledge I used.
